I have been fascinated by the power of thought from the time I was six years old. That’s when my father successfully convinced me I could cure warts with chalk. My warts vanished and I told everyone about it, until my father took me aside. He told me, “I know nothing about warts or chalk, but I do know that what you believe becomes true for you.”

Louise L. Hay

My passion for learning to create on purpose, with the power of thought, led me to study with Louise L. Hay, author of the book, “You Can Heal Your Life.” Louise led me to practice positive affirmations and visualizations with delightful results. I attracted my dream job, my dream home, and the man of my dreams!

It’s been almost 20 years since I created those incredible results and to this day, I still continue reading “Create What You Want with Positive Affirmations”

Happiness is not just a mood. It’s a decision to see life from a higher perspective. When you change the way you look at life, the life you look at changes.

Recently I discovered a short video that made my heart leap with joy. The movie is called “Celebrate What’s Right With the World.” It was created by Dewitt Jones, a professional photographer who spent 20 years with National Geographic taking pictures all over the globe.

Dewitt says continue reading “Celebrate What’s Right With the World”

Sticky note_35023 - QuoteI love inspirational quotes! I find that short pithy one or two liners are really helpful when I’m trying to find a higher perspective or to elevate my mood. Sometimes I’ll make a bright-colored post-it out of a favorite saying and put it on my fridge, filing cabinet, bulletin board or vision poster. I may use a favorite quote to illustrate a point in my writing or speeches; I may print one out as a bookmark to give away to a friend; or I may post one on my social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

A few weeks ago I had an idea – to offer an eBook of my favorite quotes to  the subscribers to my ezine as a free gift.  Over the years, I’ve collected thousands of inspirational quotes so I found it quite a challenge to winnow my favorites down to just 101 for this collection.

Well I did it!  continue reading to find out how you can get a free copy of these quotes

Road Atlas of Canada

There's lots to see and do in Canada

My wonderful summer was not without a few hiccups. I probably hit the low point on a family road trip through British Columbia. The cure came from a most unlikely place.

We had planned a 3 day canoe trip down the North Saskatchewan River on the August 3rd long weekend.  My husband (Howard) and son (Ben) and I were travelling through the interior of BC to meet up with my sister and her husband and others at a campground outside of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.

After a rest stop at a restaurant in Revelstoke, BC it was Howard’s turn to drive and I got in the back seat. I had barely kicked off my sandals before he sped out of the parking lot. A moment later he was making a left turn at an intersection and my car door, which hadn’t been latching properly since a neighbour backed into it a few months ago, swung open. I quickly grabbed the door and slammed it shut and settled into a comfortable position for a nap.

Two hundred kilometers later, at another rest stop, I discovered that one of my beautiful new and expensive Keen sandals was missing; it must have fallen out when the car door swung open. I’d bought these sandals with the covered toes especially for this canoeing trip and I had no other footwear except running shoes, which needed to stay dry for our nightly camping. We couldn’t go back, we’d gone too far already. continue reading Inspiration from a Map

Imagine a woman getting up at 4:30am every weekday morning to get ready to go to the gym. Driving in Edmonton, Alberta on even the coldest days, with snow on the ground and icy patches on the road. And while at the gym, working out on the treadmill for 30 minutes, the stair master for 15 minutes and lifting weights up to 10 pounds with each hand.  Then a series of exercises on a balance ball.  And after that perhaps a few laps in the pool. Can you imagine that?

Now imagine that this woman is 82 years old.

Well that describes my mother Margaret Evers.  She made a commitment to get in shape when she retired at age 60 and continue reading My Mom, My Coach

Last Friday morning, a shocking message from my sister, Lydia, appeared in my email box.  The subject: Mom’s in hospital again.

My heart began pounding as I sat down to read the message.

“Mom has been admitted to the hospital with a small bowel obstruction. They’re prepping her right now for the operating room. They will do a laparoscopy (insert a tiny scope through a small incision in her stomach) and look at what’s going on inside her.”

My Mom is 82 years old; she lives in Edmonton, Alberta – a 12 hour drive from where I live in Langley, BC. Usually, she is the picture of health but this was her second trip to the hospital in a month. I felt concern; but what could I do to support her from here?

In circumstances like this, it used to be my practice to worry, to dwell on the worst that could happen, and to torment myself by imagining how awful it would feel to lose her. Now I know that worry doesn’t support her or me. continue reading How I lost my worry when Mom got sick

I’m still having fun with the affirmation I told you about yesterday: “Thank you for everything. I have no complaints whatsoever.”

Here’s the latest:

I was driving around the crowded parking lot of the local mall when I saw an empty parking spot half way down the alley. I made a dash for it, arriving seconds before a blue Acura coming in the opposite direction. We both stopped. I saw that he had a better angle for getting into the spot than me. I waved at him letting him know the spot was his. He waved back the “go ahead” to me. We smiled at each other. I waved at him again.  “No really, you go.”

He smiled again and did something I didn’t expect. He put his hand to his lips and blew me a kiss!

And pulled into the parking spot.

What a rush! I felt as giddy as a schoolgirl with a crush.  Just like that.  A kiss from a stranger.  It made my day.  I plan to do it myself to another stranger soon.  Paying it forward. :)

superstickies-grnSometimes that negative voice in my head can be a tyrant, spewing out one discouraging thought after another.  Today I discovered an affirmation in Alan Cohen’s book “A Deep Breath of Life” that could stop that tyrant dead in its tracks:

Thank you for everything.

I have no complaints whatsoever.

When I first said this affirmation, I said it slowly several times to let the meaning sink in. It felt good to remember what I was thankful for. So good that I decided to practice this statement all day.  Throughout the day, if there was any hint of a complaint or negative judgment coming up, I’d repeat the affirmation.

Here’s what happened: continue reading Thank You for Everything!
